Forty years of Guiding in Dunman High
Guiding after 40. Dunman High School boasts one of the best Girl Guides companies in Singapore. DHSGG (Dunman High School Girl Guides) is not only well known for its gadgets, but also its team spirit and discipline. DHSGG has gone through years of “hardships”, sweat and blood to build it into a respectable coy be it in school or nation-wide.
Attitude
A guide has courage and is cheerful in all difficulties. DHSGG teaches Guides to have a positive attitude be it towards oneself or towards others.
Mindset
In DHSGG, we are trained to persevere in whatever we, no matter how tough things can be. Paradoxically, giving up can be much harder than doing your best when others are undergoing the same situation as you. The “one for all, and all for one” mentality and the strong family-like bond stays with every member of the DHSGG even after they leave DHS.
Initiative
Guides learn to take initiative when they are in DHSGG - the initiative to work, to lead and to teach. In year 1, guides learn to listen to instructions, while in year 2 and 3, guides learn to lead their juniors, and finally in year 4, guides teach their juniors and pass down their knowledge about Guides..
Lead
To lead or not to lead? Leadership skills are very important. Without an affective leader, the group would not be able to communicate properly. Just like in a family, there is always someone who makes the decisions, be it the mother or the father.
Yesterday once more
In any family, we must always acknowledge and cherish those who have contributed and helped to make the family what it is today. Remember, Rome was not built in a day.
